CEO MONTHLY / CHAIRPERSON AWARDS 2021 17 , Sep21437 Best Agricultural Investment Development Chairperson (UK): Caroline Havers Agriterra’s focus is on agricultural investment and sustainable developments in Southern Africa, providing high- quality food produce for local markets whilst simultaneously improving the livelihoods of over 250,000 smallholder farmers by improving their access to markets. Operating in Mozambique, Agriterra has a longer-term strategy of becoming one of the largest agri-operators and leading food providers in South Africa. The company currently has three operational agricultural divisions: grain, which operates maize purchasing and processing businesses through Desenvolvimento e Comercialização Agrícola Limitada (‘DECA’) and Compagri Limitada (‘Compagri’); beef, which sources cattle from local farms and then processes them in its own feedlot and abattoir through Mozbife Limitada (‘Mozbife’); and snax, which transform maize by-products into different flavoured fried and baked snacks through DecaSnax Limitada (‘DecaSnax’). Agriterra has built strong brands in Mozambique and established distribution networks that allow Agriterra is a non-profit AIM listed African agricultural company with established beef and maize processing operations inMozambique. Its mission is to strengthen farmer ownership to stimulate strong and vibrant rural areas. Caroline Havers was appointed Board chair of Agriterra in 2016 and executive chair in 2018. She is based in London and is an experienced dispute resolution lawyer. Having spent over 30 years working for international law firms, Caroline’s areas of practice are litigation and compliance, governance and due diligence, and she has particular interest in organisations operating in Africa. Caroline is a qualified CEDR mediator, and her legal career spans 18 years, with experience including being a partner of an international law firm and managing director of a legal practice providing volume legal services to the banking and finance sector. Indeed, Caroline, along with her fellow directors, has a wealth of experience operating in Africa, and this experience along with her network of contacts are fully utilised to fuel Agriterra’s growth.
