Chairperson Awards 2022

CEO MONTHLY / Chairperson Awards 2022 23 Sep22217 With media, it is critical to always understand the public utility of the enterprise you are working in. Brian Storseth finds that this brings a different challenge to the way iPolitics approaches clients. He tells us, “You have to make sure you maintain a focus on quality of the product that you are releasing on a consistent basis. We recognised from the outset that we needed to make sure a part of the quality was the speed of our website and making sure that it loads as fast as possible.” iPolitics believes in being disruptive and providing quality products to customers, with Brian saying, “We are constantly challenging ourselves to find the latest channels and mediums to reach our customers. Developing our strong leaders in our management team was a key factor in our turnaround. Also key was developing trust within the organisation, by making initial investments in key personnel, and recruiting iPolitics is an online media company launched in 2010, and it was one of the first online news sights in Canada. It specialises in covering Canadian federal politics, taking its coverage deeper than traditional media in terms of what and why things are happening in federal politics. CEO Monthly magazine has recognised iPolitics Chairman, Brian Storseth within its Chairperson Awards 2022 in light of his hard work in transforming iPolitics into a platform that is far more relevant in the Canadian media landscape. strong talent from outside of the industry. “I am a big believer if you want to be innovative, you need to recruit leadership that come from different sectors.” By recruiting strong leadership, a vision can be formed, and the team can be empowered to accomplish the goals that have been established. Brian has found that by working with the team throughout the year to help remove any roadblocks that the organisation is facing is a key role of Chair. He finds he is more of a “fixer/ problem solver than a dayto-day operator”. Brian’s experience prior to his current role has been gained at a mix of public and private companies in a range of positions, from CEO to Chairman of the Board of Directors. Having been an elected official in the Canadian House of Commons for ten years, he has a unique understanding in the media of how and why things are happening in Ottawa. His focus at iPolitics is to continue to be an online technology innovator and find new ways to bring content to customers, including different technology channels. But iPolitics is just the beginning. Brian explains, “As we prove out some of our new disruptive forms of coverage and analysing Canadian politics, we are also building a strong readership and increasing revenues. While we continue to develop a stronger business model, I see us taking that model to other parts of Canada and bringing our unique way that we cover Canadian politics to other provincial capitals.” Brian’s enjoyment is in growing and developing businesses; having been successful in other sectors, he felt the media industry would be a particular challenge. He tells us that he will continue to seek out other challenges, both inside and outside of this industry. He is only just getting started. None of it could happen without the support of his family, though. He shares, “The strength of everything starts at home. I am blessed to be married to my beautiful wife, Amel of 12 years. Her support and partnership is a huge part of all my business endeavours. Our twins are at the core of our partnership and the reason why we strive every day to be bigger and better than we were the day before.” Company: iPolitics Contact: Summer Senter Email: summersenter@ ipolotics.ca Website: ipolitics.ca Best Political Media Chairman (Canada): Brian Storseth
