Previously naming the charity in our NonProft Organisation Awards 2023 and 2024, we’ve now had the charity in our spotlight on multiple occasions. As a worthy winner of its accolades, we’re proud to showcase its contribution to the construction industry across the UK again. Having introduced Band of Builders’ dedicated CEO Gavin Crane to our readers back in 2023, we’re excited to highlight his continued success here in this year’s Global CEO Excellence Awards. Revisiting Band of Builders’ history, we are reminded of the charity’s journey from establishment to registration and everything that has followed in the years since. In 2016, Founder Addam Smith took a bold step forward via social media to ask for help from expert tradespeople in the UK. Addam’s close friend and colleague Keith Ellick had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and Addam wanted to make his life so much easier by renovating his home, but he would need a team of people to get the job done just right. With the seamless completion of the project, Band of Builders was born. The charity was registered in 2019 and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down, especially as it continues to improve lives all across the UK. Supporting members of the ever-evolving construction industry through compassion and a powerful concept, Band of Builders is “mobilising a community of skilled volunteers to make a tangible difference in the lives of our colleagues facing life-altering challenges”. “Founded on the principles of camaraderie, community, and compassion, our organisation has grown from a small group of volunteers into a nationwide movement that touches the lives of countless individuals within the construction sector.” – Gavin Crane, CEO of Band of Builders Band of Builders works tirelessly to serve beneficiaries, colleagues, peers, and friends within the construction industry. The charity improves the lives of tradespeople, their families, and their communities, especially Construction Charity CEO of the Year 2024 (UK): Gavin Crane Band of Builders is an honourable charity, established in 2016, which helps members of the UK construction industry who are battling with life changing or limiting illness or injury. Gavin tells us, “When life takes an unexpected turn, whether through illness, injury, or personal tragedy, we step in to offer support. Our specialisation lies in our ability to rally the construction community to carry out life-altering projects at no cost to the beneficiaries. What sets Band of Builders apart is our grassroots approach – our volunteers are tradespeople who give their time, skills, and heart to help others in need. This creates a deep sense of belonging and solidarity within our community, making every project not just a service but a powerful statement of unity.” Speaking of his journey with Band of Builders Gavin shares, “Having dedicated most of my working career to the construction industry, I have developed a deep passion for this field and a profound respect for the people who work within it. My journey with Band of Builders began in 2017 when I joined the charity as a volunteer. Like many of our team members, I was drawn to the organisation because of its commitment to supporting those in our industry who face life-altering challenges. “In May 2022, I was honoured to be appointed as the CEO of Band of Builders. This role felt like a natural progression of my commitment to the charity and the industry I love. Taking on the leadership of an organisation that I had already dedicated so much time and passion to was both a humbling and empowering experience. It gave me the opportunity to further drive our mission and expand our reach, ensuring that more people in our community could benefit from the support we offer.” Since its first project, Band of Builders has completed a monumental range of projects with a combined delivery value of over £1,000,000. The charity continues to unite and empower communities across the region and has truly become a movement within the construction industry. As the charity’s CEO, and with years of varied experience in the realm of construction, Gavin is helping to lead Band of Builders to great new heights.
