Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of every individual, setting and communicating clear short and long-term goals, inspiring confidence, establishing trust and respect, connecting with each individual, and influencing mutual efforts rather than dictating authority allows me to effectively manage the team and create a positive organisational culture which is imperative for success. Being authentic is key, people can read the difference between authenticity or a forged persona, and that makes a significant impact on the reaction and outcome you receive from individuals.” Moreover, having alluded to how important his team and staff are to him, George goes into further detail about how he manages staff, commenting on the key principles that he adheres to in order to ensure their happiness, leaving them in a position to provide a high-quality service. “In my many years of work, I have found that communication, clarity, feedback, encouragement, recognition and rewards for hard work are imperative when managing staff. “Communication is key to managing staff. Listening and speaking to staff and allowing open dialogue proactively identifies concerns that need to be settled and allows employees to feel acknowledged. Setting clear goals and directions, assisting when required and providing feedback are also necessary when managing staff. “Furthermore, understanding people’s strengths allows me to better delegate tasks and in turn achieve the best outcomes. Managing performance and rewarding hard work sets standards for employees and acts as a motivational mechanism to continue progression.” Proud of his accomplishments and humble in his acknowledgements, George provides his thoughts on what advice he would give to someone looking to make a success similar to his own. “To youngsters looking to make a successful career, they must be genuine, be passionate and be persistent. To get somewhere you must work hard, be fair but firm and accept change, and importantly, adapt different strategies to different situations. Self-confidence is a great thing to have as you must believe in yourself, and surround yourself with good people. As well as this, it is important to understand that success comes with challenges and despite these challenges you must keep moving, remain positive, persevere and focus your energy on your goals.” Looking ahead, these are exciting times for GJ and George. He concludes the interview by praising the journey he has been on so far, and stating that he is committed to the firm making the most of its continuous growth in the times ahead. “Ultimately, to date, this journey has been incredible and we have continued to prosper.
