Whether it is to go to work, to visit family and friends, or to explore somewhere new, every person that steps foot on a train has somewhere they need to be. As one of the first private providers in the railing industry, eurobahn has been offering its services since 1999. With four networks in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, and cross boarder services to the Netherlands, it delivers reliable passenger rail transport to all its users. Its CEO, Anne Mathieu, has now been recognised in the Most Influential CEO Awards 2023. We learn more about her leadership style and the company. With an annual route network of 16.7 million train kilometres, eurobahn is responsible for millions of passengers that are travelling to their desired destinations every year. To meet demand and the strict necessity for its trains, eurobahn employs around 900 employees. There is a level of management needed to be able to deliver this for end users and its CEO, Anne Mathieu, works efficiently to do so. Anne believes that without a motivated team, a company can’t successfully operate, and she focuses on providing her team with clear expectations alongside real opportunities for initiative and responsibility. eurobahn’s vision is to “reach a safe future together” which has two meanings. Firstly, it wants to ensure a safe future for the company that can maintain its employees’ desired workplace. Secondly, to be part of the change that helps bring passengers and society a more sustainable world. Germany has a specific set of goals called “transportation turnaround” where the country is looking to double the number of passengers by 2030. This comes with the need for significantly more staff, which is a current challenge due to a shortage of skilled workers in the industry. However, for those in the sector or considering it as a career, it generates a future proof profession. Anne has worked extremely hard to build the company’s inner culture to ensure that her employees are happy within their role. Employee retention is key as the team at eurobahn makes it possible to deliver reliable transport to its passengers. This is why Anne ensures that there is a good corporate culture through encouraging and delivering open and transparent communication to her team. The leadership style that Anne uses within eurobahn has been recognised, and she now holds the title of Most Influential CEO 2023 – Germany. Anne’s ability to dedicate enough time to her family, even though she works full time, provides her with the strength and happiness she needs to be her best self. This is then reflected in her ability to show up for her team and the company.
