From his role as Senior Business Development Manager at Western Union Business Solutions and Director of Worldwide Sales at CGI, to Head of Desk at Schneider Trading Associates and General Manager at Braintree, David has demonstrated a distinct ability to lead a team towards certain success. Over the course of his career, David built the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the competitive landscape of financial software. “My success is not due to natural ability – it is simply hard work and discipline only,” he says. “Effort beats talent all day long, and culture eats strategy for breakfast. During my time as an early employee at Braintree in 2013, I witnessed first-hand the chaos and inefficiency that fragmented payment systems create for merchants. Managing separate providers for cards, PayPal, BNPLs was a nightmare.” This inefficiency was further highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic as much of the world was forced to operate online overnight. For the first time since the rise of card networks, the world saw new payment rails emerging in the forms of open banking, blockchain, and a new multi-rail era. As one payment rail suddenly became three, the complexity of operations for merchants skyrocketed like never before. This was felt most acutely in the B2B sector, with an astonishing 60% of B2B companies lacking the appropriate eCommerce capabilities during the pandemic. Rvvup was born from David’s vision of a world in which the complexities of diverse payment systems are a thing of the past, replaced by the ease of a single, cohesive payment experience. Whilst a single, universal payments standard may not be in our imminent future, Rvvup aims to make this a practical reality for merchants around the world by becoming the universal standard for payments.
